But Bangladesh knows what needs to be done to improve its Test cricket, particularly in overseas conditions.First, domestic cricket pitches need to change. More pace-friendly wickets must be prepared so that batters regularly face deliveries around 135 kmph and develop the skills required to handle genuine pace.Second, teams need adequate preparation before overseas tours. Two- or three-day formal camps are not enough to prepare for conditions such as those in Australia. Bangladesh should travel several weeks before a Test series to train and play practice matches in local conditions.Third, quality fast bowlers must be developed from now on. A Test attack cannot rely solely on one or two pacers such as Nahid Rana or Taskin Ahmed. Bangladesh needs four or five international-quality fast bowlers at the same time.Fourth, batting preparation needs a technical rethink. Scoring runs overseas should not be the first priority; surviving at the crease should be. Leaving the ball, playing deliveries close to the body, adjusting to bounce and surviving the first spell with the new ball must become central to training.Most importantly, overseas tours must be treated as serious projects, not opportunities for tourism.Bangladesh is not unaware of the way out of its struggles in Test cricket abroad. The real problem lies elsewhere: knowing is not the same as doing; true knowledge lies in putting what we know into practice.
