Md. Ashikur Rahman Ashik, Staff Reporter ||
Indian High Commissioner to
Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Dr
Khalilur Rahman at the state guesthouse Padma in Dhaka on Sunday.Neither side, however,
officially disclosed details of the issues discussed during the meeting.Speaking to reporters after
the meeting, Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman said the Indian high commissioner
is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday.“After that meeting, we will
brief the media officially,” the foreign minister said.According to the prime
minister’s press wing, the meeting between Tarique Rahman and the Indian high
commissioner is scheduled to take place at 11am on Monday at the Bangladesh
Secretariat.The meeting between the two
diplomats comes amid renewed tensions in Bangladesh-India relations following
remarks made by ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina at a virtual press
conference in Delhi last week. The latest diplomatic
engagement between Dhaka and New Delhi is therefore being closely watched
against the backdrop of the recent developments between the two neighbouring
countries.Further details of the discussions
are expected to emerge following Monday’s meeting between Prime Minister
Tarique Rahman and the Indian high commissioner.
