Staff Correspondent, Staff Reporter || A Bangladeshi farmer was reportedly taken away by the Border Security Force (BSF) while working on farmland in the no-man’s land area along the Ichakhali border in Meherpur Sadar upazila today.In response, local villagers detained two Indian nationals who were working near the border and handed them over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).The incident took place on Tuesday (August 11) morning along the Ichakhali border.According to local sources, Abdul Mannan, 60, son of late Nur Ahmed of Ichakhali village, was working on his farmland near Border Pillar 124/3 when a patrol team from the Nabachandrapur camp under the 56 BSF Battalion detained him.The camp is under Tehatta Police Station in West Bengal’s Nadia district.After news of Mannan’s detention spread, his relatives and local residents detained two Indian nationals who had come to the border area for farming. They later handed them over to the Ichakhali BGB camp.The two detained Indians were identified as Sachin Das, 65, son of Manmohan Das, and Narottom Biswas, 35, son of Kunju Biswas. Both are residents of Lalbazar village under Tehatta Police Station in Nadia district.Lt Col Nazmul Hasan, commander of 6 BGB, said an official flag meeting between the BGB and BSF has been proposed to resolve the matter.He said they hope Mannan will be brought back safely through the flag meeting, while the two Indian nationals detained by local residents will also be handed over to the BSF.The BGB commander urged residents and farmers living along the border to remain cautious while working or moving near the international boundary and no-man’s land.
