International Desk || Students in India's Uttar Pradesh staged a protest demanding construction of a proper road to their village so they can travel to school safely.On Tuesday, the students, joined by their parents and other villagers, walked nearly five kilometres and gathered outside the district collectorate in Hamirpur.The Gen Alpha protesters alleged that no paved road has been built for their village on the Chandupur-Hamirpur route since India's independence.During the monsoon, the existing unpaved road becomes submerged, forcing students to walk through mud and water on their way to school. They said the conditions frequently soil their uniforms, damage their shoes and make commuting difficult.The protesters also claimed that at least one student had been forced to leave school because of the lack of a proper road.Carrying posters with slogans including “Farmers, students and the sick are suffering- build the Chandupur-Hamirpur road,” the students demanded that construction begin without further delay.Sub-Divisional Magistrate Abhishek Kumar and a circle officer held discussions with the students and their parents. The protesters withdrew after receiving assurances that work on the road would begin soon.Meanwhile, Abhijit Deep, founder of the Gen Z protest group ‘Cockroach Janata Party’, praised the Gen Alpha students for raising the issue.The organisation also plans to launch a campaign titled ‘Fix the School’ on Independence Day, focusing on improving rural government schools.
