Md. Palash Tushar Pathan ||
Dhaka University has
cancelled the residential seats of two students following allegations of homosexuality
against them, according to the administration of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall.Hall Provost Prof Md
Akhtaruzzaman told the media on Wednesday that the decision was taken based on
recommendations from an investigation committee.The university administration
is also reviewing whether further action should be taken against the two
students. However, university authorities had previously said that its
regulations do not contain specific provisions regarding such allegations.The development comes amid a
series of similar allegations at residential halls of Dhaka University in
recent months.In one incident, an
allegation was raised that a student had brought an outsider to the hall for a
same-sex encounter. In another case, a hall student union leader and another
student were accused of engaging in a same-sex relationship.The hall administration later
temporarily cancelled the residential seat of the student union leader. He,
however, denied the allegation.
The latest decision has again brought questions
over how university authorities should address allegations involving students
when there are no specific provisions in the university's regulations.
