District Correspondent || A 57-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her son in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah early Friday, reportedly following a dispute over money for drugs.The victim was identified as Shokher Banu, wife of late Jikur Hossain of Westpara in Shyamkur village.Police said local residents detained her son, Ikhlasur Rahman, shortly after the incident and handed him over to them.According to locals, Ikhlasur was addicted to drugs and frequently quarrelled with his mother over money to buy drugs. The two reportedly had an argument last night after he asked his mother for money.Later, in the early hours of Friday, Ikhlasur allegedly entered his mother's room and killed her by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon.After the killing, he allegedly attempted to flee to India. Locals noticed him, caught him and handed him over to police.Maheshpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan said preliminary information suggests that the killing took place following an argument over money for drugs.Police recovered the woman's body from the scene around 10:00am and detained Ikhlasur from a nearby area of the village, the OC said.
