New BNP standing committee members pay tribute to Zia

Four newly elected BNP Standing Committee members
paid tribute to the party’s founder and former president Ziaur Rahman at his
grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday.After laying wreaths, the
leaders pledged to work to meet the expectations of the people and strengthen
the relationship between the BNP and the public.Speaking to reporters, newly
elected Standing Committee member Aman Ullah Aman said they had been given
responsibility with certain expectations, and they would work to strengthen the
bond between the party and the people as well as between the government and the
public.“We will work to ensure
cooperation with the party and the government by keeping the people at the
centre,” he said.Aman also said they had
pledged to implement all programmes announced by the prime minister, regardless
of the sacrifices required.He said the trust placed in
the government by the people would be carried forward with responsibility.“We have taken this pledge
after paying tribute at the grave of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the great
proclaimer of the country’s independence, and at the grave of former prime
minister Khaleda Zia. We will protect the country’s independence and
sovereignty at any cost,” Aman said.‘PM is running
the country properly’Another newly elected
Standing Committee member, Prof Dr Farhad Halim Donar, said people had accepted
the way the prime minister was running the country.“There is now a common
perception that he is running the country properly,” he said.Donar acknowledged that the
country was facing some problems, but said efforts were underway to resolve
them.Referring to the ongoing
electricity crisis, he said the prime minister had clarified the issue in his
recent remarks at Karail. He expressed hope that the problem would be resolved
soon.Newly elected Standing
Committee members Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed and Ismail Zabiullah, BNP Joint
Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and leaders and activists from
different levels of the party were also present during the tribute.
