International Desk || Twenty-one former international cricket captains have urged Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ensure proper medical treatment for jailed former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.In a letter to Shehbaz Sharif, the former captains said a Supreme Court directive requiring Imran to undergo an examination by an independent medical board in the presence of his personal doctors and sister had not been fully implemented.They said Imran was kept in hospital for only a few hours before being declared medically fit and sent back to prison.The former captains called for a comprehensive and independent health assessment, regular family visits and immediate treatment in line with the recommendations of his doctors.Three demandsThe signatories made three specific demands.First, they called for a medical board to be formed in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directions to examine Imran’s health. They also demanded that his personal doctors be included on the board. Particular attention should be given to reports that his vision in the right eye has deteriorated, they said.Second, they urged authorities to allow Imran’s family members to meet him every week, as directed by the court, without administrative obstacles.Third, they called for any treatment recommended by the medical board to be provided without delay.The letter noted that Imran, 73, has been in custody for more than three years. The former captains acknowledged that legal and political disputes surrounding his cases may continue, but said implementing court-directed medical care should not be considered a controversial demand.It is a matter of basic humanity, they said.Among those who signed the letter are former cricket captains Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Allan Border, Sunil Gavaskar, David Gower, Clive Lloyd, Arjuna Ranatunga and Steve Waugh.Source: Geo News
