International Desk || Princess Diana’s younger brother, Charles Spencer, is set to publish a book offering a personal account of the late royal’s life and their relationship.Titled ‘Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, the book is scheduled to be released ahead of the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death. It will be published in the UK next month by Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin Random House, with international editions to follow.According to Reuters, the book will explore Diana’s life, her relationship with Spencer and his personal memories of his sister.Spencer said he has often been asked to give interviews about Diana, while some of the views and accounts published about her have made him uncomfortable. He believes that several claims about his sister have, over time, been accepted as fact despite being inaccurate.In a statement, Spencer said he had decided to share his own memories and perspective once and for all through the book.Diana rose to global prominence after marrying then-Prince Charles in 1981. She quickly became one of the most recognisable members of the British royal family and one of the world’s most photographed women.Her marriage, however, became increasingly strained, and the couple divorced in 1996. A year later, Diana died at the age of 36 in a car crash in Paris in August 1997.Interest in Diana has remained strong decades after her death, with her relationship with the royal family, private life and the circumstances surrounding her death continuing to attract public attention.Spencer’s speech at Diana’s funeral was also widely discussed. In it, he criticised the royal family and publicly stood by his sister.With his new book, Spencer hopes to offer his own perspective on Diana’s life. Daniel Bunyard, publishing director at Penguin Random House, described the book as a work of historical significance.Although numerous books and documentaries have already explored Diana’s life, the new publication is expected to draw fresh attention because it comes directly from someone who knew her as a brother.
