Palash Tushar Pathan, Reporter || The 11-party alliance will launch a series of political programmes from September 5 to press the government to implement the verdict of the referendum, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam said on Wednesday.Responding to a question from a journalist about what the alliance would do if the government failed to implement the referendum verdict, Nahid said their programmes were already underway.We will begin a long march from September 5. Similar programmes will gradually be organised in other divisions. We will also hold a mass rally in Dhaka demanding implementation of the referendum verdict, he said.Nahid made the remarks at a press conference following a meeting of the 11-party alliance at the official residence of the opposition leader on Minto Road in the capital.He also raised concerns over the country’s current power and gas situation.“There is a gas and electricity crisis in the country at the moment. Even when ministers and lawmakers are speaking, the electricity goes out. Yet they are trying to say, in different ways, that there is no crisis,” Nahid said.March planned over enforced disappearancesJamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad said many people had allegedly been subjected to enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killings in the past, but the incidents had yet to be properly addressed through justice.Against this backdrop, the 11-party alliance will organise a march towards the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday, August 30, at 3:00pm, he said.Family members of people who were allegedly subjected to enforced disappearance will take part in the march, Azad added.Leaders of the 11-party alliance were present at the press conference.
