A Dhaka court on
Thursday placed actor Ashraful Haque, popularly known as Don, on a five-day
remand in a murder case filed over the death of popular Bangladeshi film actor Salman
Shah.Dhaka Metropolitan
Magistrate-10 Judge Jewel Rana passed the order after hearing both sides. CID
Inspector Md M H M Mujibur Rahman, the investigation officer of the case, had
sought a seven-day remand for Don.The CID told the court that
interrogating Don in custody could help investigators obtain important
information about Salman Shah’s death and identify others who may have been
involved in the case.Investigators also want to
know how and why Don allegedly attempted to leave the country despite a travel
ban, and whether anyone had encouraged or assisted him in doing so.Don was detained by
immigration police from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area on
August 9. He was subsequently sent to jail after being produced before a Dhaka court.Salman Shah died on September
6, 1996. A case of unnatural death was initially filed over his death.
Following a lengthy legal process, a court in October 2025 ordered that the
matter be treated as a murder case. Salman Shah’s maternal uncle subsequently
filed the murder case with Ramna Police Station. The case names 11 people as
accused, including Don.
