Sports Desk || FIFA has eased the way Argentina’s three suspended players can serve their bans following a clash with Spain players in the World Cup final.Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina and Thiago Almada were originally handed 10-, seven- and one-match suspensions respectively. One member of Argentina’s coaching staff was also sanctioned.The Argentine Football Association (AFA) had asked FIFA to allow the suspended matches to count during international friendlies as well as competitive fixtures. FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee has approved the request.As a result, the bans can now be served during both official and friendly matches played in international windows. This gives the three players an opportunity to reduce their suspension by featuring in Argentina’s matches later this year and in early 2027.According to the AFA, Argentina could play six international matches during the remainder of this year. That could significantly shorten the bans facing Paredes and Molina.However, the AFA said it would continue its legal efforts to have the punishments reduced further. Once it receives FIFA’s documents, the association plans to appeal to the FIFA Appeal Committee.If that appeal fails, the AFA could take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).AFA legal adviser Andres Paton has already questioned the severity of the sanctions, arguing that the punishments imposed on the Argentine players were excessive.
