Bangladesh leader Sheikh Fazlul Karim Maruf has accused the July Uprising
Memorial Museum of presenting a partial account of the July uprising as a
complete history.After visiting the
museum in Dhaka on Saturday with leaders of the party’s Dhaka South unit, Maruf
alleged that the role of Islamist groups, particularly Islami Andolan
Bangladesh and its Amir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, had not been properly
reflected.He said several
important events and political programmes during the uprising, including
protests on August 3, 4 and 5 and the call for Sheikh Hasina’s resignation,
were missing from the museum’s exhibition.Presenting a partial
exhibition as the complete history of the July uprising is an attempt to
distort history, Maruf said.Dhaka South city
secretary KM Shariyatullah also criticised the museum’s management, including
its ticketing and security-checking systems. He urged the government to take
immediate steps to ensure an objective and comprehensive presentation of the
uprising’s history.
