629 arrested in Dhaka in 24-hour police drive

Dhaka Metropolitan Police
(DMP) arrested 629 people in the capital during its regular drives over the
past 24 hours. A total of 50 cases were filed during the period.Among those arrested, 40 were
from Ramna, 42 from Lalbagh, 65 from Wari, 68 from Motijheel, 95 from Tejgaon,
203 from Mirpur, 55 from Gulshan, 49 from Uttara and 12 by the Detective
Branch. During the drives, police
recovered 7kg 965g of cannabis, 211 yaba tablets, 106g of heroin, one
foreign-made pistol, one shotgun, one air gun, one round of ammunition, one
magazine, one spent cartridge and 32 Redball cartridges.The operation also led to the
recovery of 55 mobile phones, seven pieces of foil paper, three gas lighters,
one bottle of white-coloured alcohol, one CNG-run auto-rickshaw, three
motorcycles, four knives, two steel blades, one machete and Tk 18,220 in cash. The arrests and seizures were made during
operations in different police station areas across the capital, according to
the DMP.
