Monir Hossain Patwari, Reporter || Police Superintendent AFM Nizam Uddin of the Police Headquarters has been temporarily suspended after a drug test found his urine sample positive for benzodiazepines (BZO) and amphetamine/methamphetamine.The suspension was ordered through a gazette notification signed by Home Ministry Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury. Although the notification was signed on September 10, it was made public on Monday (September 14). According to the notification, Nizam is currently attached to the office of the deputy inspector general of police of Rangpur Range. He had left Police Headquarters on January 8 to attend the DSCSC-2026 course at Mirpur Cantonment.He fell ill on June 7 while attending the course and was subsequently sent to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. On the advice of specialist doctors, he underwent a series of medical examinations, including a drug test. His urine sample tested positive for benzodiazepines (BZO) and amphetamine/methamphetamine, according to the notification.The order said the drug-test result was considered contrary to the discipline required during the DSCSC course and constituted misconduct punishable under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules. Under the relevant provisions of the rules, Nizam Uddin was temporarily suspended from government service with effect from August 31.The notification said he would receive subsistence allowance according to the applicable rules during the period of suspension. The order, issued in the public interest, came into immediate effect.
