International Desk || US military bases across the Middle East have suffered extensive damage in Iranian attacks, according to ABC News, citing an assessment of the damage from a war that Washington launched more than six months ago.The report said images showed damaged buildings and aircraft at three US bases in Kuwait and another facility in Saudi Arabia that houses American military equipment. Some of the bases have reportedly been evacuated.The assessment also included images of a damaged E-3 Sentry surveillance aircraft at Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Air Base. The aircraft is valued at around $270 million.A senior US service member, speaking on condition of anonymity, said some of the damage to the bases was irreparable and that rebuilding them could take decades. The person also accused the Pentagon of lacking transparency, saying drones and ballistic missiles were striking the bases on a daily basis.A report by the Pentagon’s inspector general said more than 100 buildings and structures had been damaged. The watchdog estimated the cost of the war at $33 billion, while the Congressional Budget Office put the figure at $38 billion.The US Department of Defense said 18 American service members had been killed and 824 wounded since the war began on February 28. The deadliest attack occurred on the second day of the war, when six US troops were killed at Port Shuaiba in Kuwait.Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said protecting US troops remains the top priority, while acknowledging that some Iranian weapons have managed to penetrate American defence systems.
