Matin Sagor , Reporter || The Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) has undertaken a Tk 7,245 crore financing initiative to expand renewable energy, create new entrepreneurs in the cottage and microenterprise sectors, and support sanitation and ultra-poor communities.Of the total amount, Tk 500 crore will be allocated for expanding rooftop solar power generation.The decisions were taken at a meeting of the PKSF board of directors held at PKSF Bhaban-1 on Sunday, according to a press release issued by the organisation.At the meeting, the board approved Tk 5,000 crore in loans, funded by the Bangladesh Bank, to support entrepreneurship in the cottage and microenterprise sectors.The financing will be used for technology-based agriculture and agro-processing, manufacturing, services, and various value-chain activities at the grassroots level.According to PKSF, the initiative aims to utilise the skills and productive capacity of low-income people while creating opportunities for new entrepreneurs and employment.The board also approved a specialised financing programme based on a Tk 500 crore government allocation to expand rooftop solar power generation.Under the programme, loans will be disbursed to customers through PKSF's partner organisations at an interest rate of 6 percent. The board approved a specialised lending policy titled 'Solar Energy' for this purpose.In addition, the board approved nearly Tk 2,000 crore in loans for PKSF's partner organisations for various sectors, including cluster-based microenterprises, general services, ultra-poor communities and agriculture. The meeting was chaired by PKSF Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan. Managing Director Fazlul Kader and other members of the board were also present.
