Ashikur Rahman Ashik, Reporter || The Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies (BAPLC) has proposed simplifying rules related to initial public offerings (IPOs) to encourage more new and qualified companies to enter the country’s capital market.The organisation also called for necessary amendments and, where appropriate, relaxation of existing regulatory requirements to make business operations easier for listed companies.The proposals were discussed at a meeting between BAPLC representatives and Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Masud Khan and commissioners on Sunday at the Securities Exchange Building in Agargaon, Dhaka.Led by BAPLC President Riyad Mahmud, a delegation of the organisation took part in the meeting. Both sides discussed capital market development, regulatory and policy issues concerning listed companies, and ways to create a more business-friendly environment.BAPLC representatives said existing regulatory requirements should be amended or relaxed where necessary to facilitate the operations of listed companies. They also stressed the need for policy and regulatory measures to encourage new and qualified companies to raise funds through IPOs.According to BAPLC, such measures could help improve the overall business environment and strengthen investor confidence, while contributing to the sustainable development of the capital market.The meeting also covered issues related to the broader national economy. Participants emphasised the need for a more supportive, transparent, predictable and business-friendly regulatory environment.BAPLC Vice President Engineer Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed and executive committee members Raukadar Kader, Humayun Rashid, Syed Farzanah Chowdhury, Sharif Shah Jamal Raj, Zeyad Rahman, Md Imam Shaheen, Hasan Tarek, Major General Dr Monirul Islam (Akhtar), Md Zahidul Islam and Md Abdullah Al Emran attended the meeting. BAPLC Secretary General Md Amzad Hossain was also present. BSEC Commissioners Tanvir Habib Rahman, Md Nafiz Al Tariq and Md Hossain Sadat attended the meeting on behalf of the commission.
