Faisal Ahmed Sweet, Reporter ||
Bangladesh
will prioritise sending trained and skilled workers to Malaysia based on the
specific requirements of employers there, Labour and Employment Minister Ariful
Haque Chowdhury said yesterday. Workers
will be sent through BOESL and other recruiting agencies according to the
demands of the Malaysian labour market, he told reporters at a press
conference at the Secretariat.The
minister stressed that simply sending workers abroad would not be enough. They
must receive training tailored to the requirements of Malaysian employers. If
workers are sent without proper training, they may face various forms of
harassment after reaching Malaysia. That is why we will first assess the demand
and then arrange training accordingly, he said.Training to match demandThe
minister said the government wants to provide training based on specific job
demands in Malaysia. We
want to provide training according to demand. The employers who will recruit
workers from Bangladesh will come here and select workers based on their
requirements. Then we will proceed with sending them, he said.BOESL, other agencies to be involvedWorkers
will be sent through Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited
(BOESL) as well as other authorised recruiting agencies, according to the
minister. However,
he said the relevant procedures must be finalised before recruitment and
deployment begin.Govt wary of syndicationThe
minister acknowledged that allegations of syndication and harassment of
Bangladeshi workers had emerged during previous recruitment drives for the
Malaysian labour market.This
time, the government is being cautious to prevent such a situation, he said,
adding that the focus would remain on sending trained workers according to
actual demand.Medical process yet to be approvedThe
process for conducting medical examinations of workers has not yet been
approved, the minister said. Further
steps will be taken once the Malaysian side confirms its demand for workers and
other relevant issues, he added.
