Habibur Rahman (Bappy), Staff Reporter || The Bangladesh Bridge Authority has approved the long-term lease of 120 acres of land at the Jamuna Bridge site for the construction of a 55-megawatt solar power plant, aiming to increase renewable energy use and promote environment-friendly infrastructure.The approval was given at the 117th board meeting of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority held on August 3 at the conference room of the Bridges Division. The meeting was chaired by Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Bridge Authority Board Chairman Sheikh Robiul Alam.According to the board decision, North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) will receive the land on lease to set up the solar power plant at the Jamuna Bridge site.Officials said the project is expected to increase the supply of electricity from renewable sources to the national grid while reducing carbon emissions and contributing to environmental protection.At the beginning of the meeting, Bridges Division Secretary and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf presented the agenda and progress on the implementation of decisions from previous meetings through a PowerPoint presentation.Later, board members reviewed several proposals and approved a number of important decisions, including the solar power project.Speaking at the meeting, Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam said the government is committed to sustainable development, expansion of green energy and building environment-friendly transport infrastructure.“Alongside infrastructure development, increasing the use of renewable energy is a demand of the time. Such projects will play an important role in achieving that goal,” he said.The minister instructed the concerned officials and authorities to ensure timely, transparent and effective implementation of all decisions taken by the board with accountability and efficiency.
