11-Party Alliance Holds Protest Sit-in at Dhaka’s Muktangan

The 11-party alliance
began a sit-in programme at Muktangan in the capital on Wednesday, protesting rising
prices of essential commodities, fuel and gas shortages, electricity bill
irregularities and what it described as a deteriorating law-and-order
situation.The programme started
at 11:00am with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Leaders of the alliance said
the demonstration was organised to raise public concerns over the ongoing
crises affecting daily life.Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer
and opposition leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to address the programme
as the chief guest, along with other senior leaders of the alliance.The organisers said
that after the speeches, a delegation of the alliance leaders would visit the
Secretariat to discuss their demands with the relevant ministries.
