Online Desk || WhatsApp is introducing a new “Storage Cleanup” tool to help users manage phone storage more efficiently by removing unnecessary photos, videos and voice notes accumulated from channels.According to technology news outlet Digital Trends, the upcoming feature will allow users to clean up channel media files without manually searching for individual images, videos or audio clips. With just a few taps, users will be able to delete unwanted files and recover valuable storage space.After several months of testing, the feature has been rolled out to a limited number of users on the latest Android beta version. WhatsApp plans to gradually expand access to more beta testers.Currently, WhatsApp’s storage settings allow users to view and delete channel media files, but they need to select files individually. The new Storage Cleanup tool aims to simplify the process by offering a more organised way to manage stored media.With the new feature, users will be able to check how much storage space a specific channel is using directly from the channel information page. Photos, videos, stickers and voice notes will appear in separate categories, allowing users to remove selected files according to their needs.An important aspect of the feature is that starred messages and important files will not be deleted automatically during the cleanup process.WhatsApp is also adding a new shortcut for users who follow multiple channels. From the Updates tab, users will be able to select one or more channels and use the “Clear Media Files” option to remove accumulated media from multiple channels at once, without opening each channel separately.The feature is expected to be particularly useful for frequent channel users, as many channels share large amounts of images and videos daily, which can gradually consume significant phone storage.However, WhatsApp has not yet announced when the feature will become available to general users on the main app. For now, it remains limited to selected Android beta users.
