Sports Desk || Bangladesh faced a major batting collapse on the opening day of their only three-day warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI in Darwin, as the hosts’ bowlers kept the visiting side under pressure.At the close of play on the first day, Bangladesh reached 175 for 7 in their first innings. The match is being played at the Marrara Oval, where Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat first.However, Bangladesh’s innings got off to a poor start as opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim was dismissed for a duck with the team score on just seven. Hanno Jacobs claimed the early breakthrough.Sadman Islam and Mominul Haque attempted to rebuild the innings, but the scoring rate remained slow. Captain Shanto top-scored for Bangladesh with 37 runs off 53 balls, including seven boundaries, before being dismissed. Sadman contributed 31 runs from 47 balls.Experienced batter Mominul Haque scored 16, while Test debutant hopeful Amit Hasan made 15, but neither could convert their starts into a substantial innings. Mushfiqur Rahim also failed to make an impact, returning to the pavilion without scoring.Bangladesh lost four wickets before lunch, with their top six batters struggling to handle the Australian attack.While Bangladesh had concerns about facing Australia’s pace bowlers, it was off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli who caused the most damage, taking four wickets for 60 runs in 19 overs. Hanno Jacobs, Xavier Crone and Campbell Thompson picked up one wicket each.With Bangladesh seven wickets down, Mehidy Hasan Miraz provided much-needed resistance. He remained unbeaten on 51 runs off 75 balls, hitting six sixes and one four, keeping Bangladesh’s hopes alive at the end of the day.
