Md. Palash Tushar Pathan, Entertainment Reporter || The High Court has suspended the upcoming biennial election of the Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association for two months. The election was scheduled to be held on August 8.A High Court bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar issued the order on Thursday, August 6. The court also directed that all election-related activities remain suspended until the pending case at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Arbitration Tribunal is resolved.The writ petition was filed by film producer and actor Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Ujjwal, challenging the decision to hold the election while a case (No. 08/2026) was still pending before the FBCCI Arbitration Tribunal. The petition also questioned the alleged inaction of the concerned authorities.Senior Advocates Md. Badruddoza, Md. Moniruzzaman Asad, and Advocate Md. Khairul Alam represented the petitioner during the hearing.Following the hearing, the court issued a rule asking the respondents to explain why their alleged inaction should not be declared illegal and without lawful authority.The association’s election process had been facing controversy for several days over the candidacies of Khorhshed Alam Khosru and Shamsul Alam. A section of members alleged that, under the organisation’s rules, they were required to take a break after serving two consecutive terms but were still contesting the election.Several candidates expressed disappointment over the suspension. Panel member Tanvir Hasan said they wanted to restore voters’ rights through a fair election, but the process has now been delayed due to the writ petition.Meanwhile, the association has not yet issued any official statement regarding the court’s order. Officials concerned said further legal steps would be decided after receiving the full copy of the court’s verdict.
