BNP Leader, Woman Injured in Paltan Shooting in Pallabi

A
BNP leader and a female passerby were injured after unidentified assailants
opened fire in Dhaka’s Pallabi area on Friday evening.The
incident took place around 5:30pm in front of a tea stall at Road-2, Block-B,
Mirpur-11 under Pallabi Police Station.The
injured BNP leader, Md Alamgir, 55, is a fish trader and a member of the BNP’s
Nabhabganj thana unit. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)
for treatment as his condition deteriorated.According
to Alamgir’s uncle Ashik, Alamgir was sitting in front of a tea stall when four
people arrived in a private car and allegedly fired several rounds targeting
him before fleeing the scene.He
sustained gunshot injuries to the right side of his head, abdomen and right
leg. He was first taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to DMCH around
6:50pm for advanced treatment.Police
said a woman was also injured while crossing the road during the shooting. She
was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to DMCH.Pallabi
Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Bashir confirmed the incident,
saying that three rounds were fired and two people were injured.Inspector
Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the admission of the
injured BNP leader and said the matter had been reported to the concerned
police station.Police
said they are investigating the incident to identify those involved in the
attack.
