Bangladesh
continued to see strong growth in remittance inflows as expatriate Bangladeshis
sent $602 million in the first five days of August of the 2026-27 fiscal year,
according to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank. The figure represents an 83.7
percent increase compared with the same period of the previous fiscal year.Bangladesh Bank data showed
that expatriates sent $196 million in remittances on August 4 and 5 alone. From July 1 to August 5, the
country received a total of $3.461 billion in remittances, compared with $2.806
billion during the same period last year. This marks a year-on-year growth of
23.3 percent. The central bank said the
continued preference for official banking channels to send remittances is
strengthening the country’s foreign currency inflow, which is contributing
positively to foreign exchange reserves and overall macroeconomic stability.Officials said the steady
rise in remittance earnings is expected to provide further support to the
economy by improving the availability of foreign currency.
