Congress leader Pawan Khera slams Modi government, asks whether India is truly independent
International Desk ||
The US Senate has passed a
sanctions bill on Russia that could give President Donald Trump the authority
to impose 100 percent tariffs on the top five buyers of Russian oil, including
India and China, if the legislation becomes law.Against this backdrop, Indian
Congress leader and MP Pawan Khera launched a sharp attack on the Modi
government, asking in Prayagraj whether India is truly independent.“Is India really
independent?” Khera asked journalists, alleging that foreign powers were
blackmailing India and dictating how much oil the country can buy and from
whom.He said those who call
themselves “Vishwaguru” should answer these questions, but accused them of
lacking the courage to face such issues in Parliament.“They are afraid to be
accountable to the people,” Khera said.The bill passed by the US
Senate reportedly targets countries involved in buying Russian oil and gas,
with the possibility of tariffs or sanctions of up to 100 percent. The
development has once again put India’s foreign policy and the government’s
stance under scrutiny, with the Congress putting the Centre on the defensive
over the issue.
