Putin warns of retaliation if Europe seizes Russian ships

Putin warns of retaliation if Europe seizes Russian ships
Russian President Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Moscow could seize European vessels if European countries continue detaining Russian cargo ships.

Putin described the recent seizure of several Russian oil tankers by European countries as “piracy and robbery.” He said Russia would take retaliatory measures if such actions continued.

European countries recently detained several Russian oil-carrying vessels accused of violating Western sanctions. They have also received permission to sell oil and other goods seized from those ships.

Putin has instructed the Russian Navy to prepare for possible situations involving the seizure of European vessels.

He made the remarks during a Russian naval exercise in the Pacific. At the same time, Putin accused the NATO military alliance of increasing its military activities in Asia and contributing to growing tensions in the region.

His warning comes amid allegations that North Korea is supplying large quantities of weapons and troops to support Russia in the war in Ukraine, raising fresh concerns over escalating tensions in the region.
