At tea on Friday, Bangladesh
were 286 for 3 after 78 overs, having already secured an 88-run lead over
Australia’s first-innings total of 198.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto
and experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim have further strengthened Bangladesh’s
position. The pair have put together an unbeaten 55-run partnership for the
fourth wicket.
Shanto was closing in on a
century, remaining unbeaten on 79, while Mushfiqur was on 26 not out.
Their partnership has put
Bangladesh in a strong position to build an even bigger lead as the Test
progresses.
Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by
Hasan Mahmud, earlier produced an impressive performance to restrict Australia
to 198. The batters have since maintained the momentum with a disciplined
display.
With five successive sessions of dominance behind them, Bangladesh are now increasingly looking at the possibility of securing a memorable victory in Darwin.
