The incident took
place at Gangkul Para in Belabo Sadar Union, where members of a local anti-drug
committee conducted the operation.
According to sources
from the committee, the suspect's movements appeared suspicious during the
weekly market. Committee members searched his bag and claimed to have recovered
approximately two kilograms of cannabis. With the assistance of local
residents, the man was later detained and handed over to police.
During initial
questioning, the detainee identified himself as Junaid, son of Harun Mia. He
said he had come to Belabo from Kalikaprasad Union of Bhairab upazila in
Kishoreganj.
The operation was
led by Mohammad Nazim Uddin Bhuiyan, president of the Belabo Anti-Drug
Committee. Committee members Md Swapan Mia, Mohammad Sadeq and Mohammad Monjil
were also present.

said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs across
the country, and the committee is working to keep Belabo, especially Belabo
Sadar Union, free from drugs and gambling.
Committee member
and local Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal leader Md Swapan Mia said, “We are determined
to make Belabo drug-free at any cost.”
The committee said anti-drug operations and awareness campaigns are being carried out regularly in the area. Legal action against the detainee is currently underway, according to those concerned.
