Police have arrested former Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) lawmaker Naib Ali Joardar from his residence in the Arappara Jamtala Model Mosque area of the district town.Family members said he was taken into custody around 2:30am on Saturday from his home. Police reportedly surrounded the residence at night, led by the officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station, before taking him away in connection with a case filed over alleged sabotage.He was later sent to jail through the court on Saturday afternoon, according to family sources.However, another reliable source claimed that Naib Ali had been maintaining regular communication with former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and was allegedly planning to create unrest in the area.Based on such information, the source said, the former Awami League lawmaker was detained following instructions from the Police Headquarters.Naib Ali Joardar is a former MP from the Jhenaidah-1 constituency, which covers Shailkupa.When contacted by phone, Shailkupa Police Station OC Humayun Kabir Molla declined to comment on the arrest.
