In a statement sent
to the media on Sunday, Golam Parwar strongly condemned the incident and called
for legal action against the alleged attackers.
According to the
statement, Amir Hamza was returning home after a public outreach programme when
his motorcade came under attack at the Six Roads intersection in Kushtia city
on Saturday evening. He was reportedly travelling under police escort at the
time.
Golam Parwar alleged
that activists of the Gono Odhikar Parishad attacked the motorcade with hockey
sticks and bricks, with the intention of harming the MP. He claimed that seven
people, including Amir Hamza, members of his family and his companions, were
seriously injured in the incident.
The Jamaat leader
described the alleged attack on an elected lawmaker in the presence of police
as a serious concern and said it reflected a deterioration in the country’s law
and order situation.
He further alleged
that Amir Hamza had earlier informed law enforcement agencies about provocative
statements and the possibility of unrest. Despite this, he claimed, police
failed to take adequate preventive measures.
Golam Parwar called
for the immediate identification and arrest of those responsible and demanded
exemplary punishment through the legal process. He also wished the injured a
speedy recovery and urged the administration to take impartial and effective
measures to maintain peace and stability in the area.
The Gono Odhikar Parishad’s response to the allegations was not immediately available.
