Spider-Man: Brand New Day has maintained its dominance at the North American box office, remaining at No. 1 for a third consecutive weekend.

According to Variety, the film earned $19 million in the US and Canadian markets on Friday alone. Its weekend collection is expected to reach around $67 million.

Warner Bros’ science-fiction thriller ‘The End of Oak Street’ opened in second place. The film earned $8.1 million from 3,446 theatres in North America on its opening day.

Industry projections suggest the film could gross around $18.7 million in the US and Canada by Sunday. Given its production budget of more than $80 million, the opening is considered weaker than expected.

However, the film has received encouraging reviews from audiences and critics. It currently has an 84 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B grade from CinemaScore.

Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, known for ‘It Follows’, the film follows a suburban family whose neighbourhood is suddenly transported to a prehistoric era. The cast includes Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery and Jordan Alexa Davis.

Meanwhile, Paramount’s animated family film ‘PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie’ opened in third place, earning $7.3 million on Friday. It is projected to collect around $20 million over the weekend.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ saw its third-weekend earnings fall by about 53 percent from the previous weekend. Even so, the decline was not enough to dislodge it from the top spot. Its total North American gross could reach around $783 million after this weekend.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ also continued its strong run. The epic, based on the Greek classic, earned another $6.5 million on Friday in its fifth weekend. Its weekend total is projected at around $23 million, taking its North American gross to approximately $504 million.
