Engineers Must Harness Their Skills for Innovation: Fakir Mahbub

The country’s engineers must use their knowledge, expertise and innovative thinking to develop and modernise Bangladesh’s telecommunications infrastructure, said Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister and Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at an introductory meeting with assistant divisional engineers who recently joined the 27th BCS Telecommunications Cadre at the Department of Telecommunications in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Wednesday.

Fakir Mahbub Anam said telecommunications is one of the key foundations of a country’s economic and social development. Bangladesh is also moving rapidly towards digital transformation, he said, stressing the need to develop skilled human resources and modern, technology-driven telecommunications infrastructure to accelerate the process.

Government Service Is an Opportunity to Serve People

Addressing the newly appointed engineers, the minister said government service is not merely a job but an important opportunity to serve the people.

He urged them to give the highest priority to integrity, professionalism, accountability and patriotism while carrying out their responsibilities.

The minister also called on the engineers to continuously update their knowledge and skills in line with rapid technological changes.

Fakir Mahbub Anam said the capacity of the telecommunications sector must be strengthened to ensure improved and uninterrupted communication services for people in remote areas.

He also stressed the need to make effective use of emerging technologies to provide affordable, quality and people-friendly telecommunications services.

Engineers Share Plans and Expectations

At the meeting, the assistant divisional engineers of the 27th BCS Telecommunications Cadre introduced themselves and exchanged views on their expectations and plans for developing the telecommunications sector.

Before the meeting, the minister visited the Cyber Threat Detection and Response (CTDR) Centre at the Department of Telecommunications and inspected its activities.

Director General of the Department of Telecommunications Md Ashraf Hossain chaired the meeting. Officials from the department and the newly appointed assistant divisional engineers were also present.
