Indian actor and BJP lawmaker Kangana Ranaut and yoga guru Baba Ramdev have traded sharp remarks after Ramdev criticised Ranaut over her controversial comments about students protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Last month, Ranaut described young students who had gathered at Jantar Mantar to protest an alleged question-paper leak as “sewer worms”. Her remarks sparked widespread criticism on social media. She later described the younger generation as the country’s strength.

Speaking in a recent interview, Ramdev criticised Ranaut’s comments, saying he did not want to comment on people who compared the country’s youth to a sewer. He described such remarks as a sign of a “distorted mind” and urged political parties to take note of such statements.

Ramdev also questioned Ranaut’s past, asking whether she remembered what her childhood and youth were like and what she had done in the past.

Ranaut responded angrily, telling Ramdev, “Babaji, stop daydreaming about my youth and bedroom.” She also urged him not to make comments about people based on rumours.

The actor further claimed that she had never had to appear before the Supreme Court over fraudulent activities. Calling Ramdev’s remarks baseless, she said her comments had been made on the basis of reason and argument.

Ranaut also warned Ramdev against commenting on her character, saying, “My character is much better than yours. At least there is no fraud involved here.”

At the same time, Ranaut clarified her earlier remarks. She said young people are the strength of the country and that every young person is someone’s child and the country’s future.

According to Ranaut, her comments were directed specifically at the crowd present at Jantar Mantar and not at the entire younger generation.

She said that if anyone could show a specific statement in which she had criticised an entire generation, she would accept the criticism.

Ranaut also said she did not want to engage in a political disagreement with Ramdev and stressed that she was not against the youth.
