Political differences between Bangladesh and India are likely to continue, but they should not affect economic relations between the two countries, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi said on Monday.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting with Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir at around 11am.

Politics will take its own course, but Bangladesh-India relations must move forward, Trivedi said.

He expressed optimism that ties between the two countries would improve further in the coming days.

The Indian envoy said people of both Bangladesh and India are talented and that the younger generation in both countries has many aspirations.

It is the responsibility of all of us to do what is necessary to fulfil the aspirations of the young generation, he said.

Trivedi also stressed that Bangladesh and India are two independent and sovereign countries.

Neither country is bigger or smaller. We are equals. The two countries must continue working on the basis of this equality, he said.
