Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Zahir Uddin Swapan has praised the United Nations’ role in Bangladesh’s development and expressed hope for closer cooperation in the days ahead.He made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with UNDP Resident Representative Steven Rodrigues at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Thursday morning.The meeting discussed Bangladesh’s development priorities and future plans, as well as ways to work on a larger scale to meet people’s aspirations under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.Rodrigues expressed his commitment to making the UN’s role in Bangladesh’s development more effective. The two sides also discussed institutional reforms in various sectors following the July uprising. Swapan said the UN’s contribution to Bangladesh has been commendable. He expressed hope that the UN would work more closely with the government in areas linked to its ongoing initiatives.
