Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman held separate bilateral meetings with senior military officials from Australia and the United States while attending the Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition and Chief of Army Symposium 2026 in Perth, Australia.
On
Monday, the army chief met Australian Army Chief Lieutenant General Susan Coyle
and Lieutenant General Joel B Vowell, Deputy Commanding General of the United
States Army Pacific (USARPAC), separately.
The
Bangladesh Army shared the information on its verified Facebook page on
Tuesday.
During
the meeting with Lieutenant General Susan Coyle, the two sides discussed mutual
military cooperation, training, capacity building and welfare-related
activities.
In
his meeting with Lieutenant General Joel B Vowell, General Waker-Uz-Zaman
discussed expanding cooperation and information sharing between the armed
forces of Bangladesh and the United States.
The
discussions also covered plans to organise a Disaster Response Exercise and
Exchange (DREE) to strengthen preparedness for disaster response.
The
two sides also discussed launching training courses at the Bangladesh Institute
of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT) with funding from the Global Peace
Operations Initiative (GPOI).
Increasing the participation of US trainees at Bangladesh's National Defence College (NDC) and Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) was also discussed during the meetings.
