Food Minister Afroza Khanam has said the government wants to eliminate the existence of any syndicate or group that manipulates the market and causes suffering to consumers.

She made the remarks while speaking to reporters after inspecting government food storage facilities and other installations in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, on Tuesday.

The minister said ensuring safe food for the people is a major priority of the government. The Food Ministry is regularly monitoring market conditions, food stocks and supply systems following the prime minister’s directives. So far, we have not faced any major problem, she said, adding that necessary measures would be taken promptly if any disruption occurs in food supply or market management.

Regarding the nutritious rice production project, Afroza said it was too early to specify when the project would be launched. Discussions would be held with the relevant authorities to initiate it as soon as possible. Earlier in the day, she inspected the government modern flour mill in Postogola, Dhaka, at around 10am. At around 1pm, she visited the Narayanganj silo and the Narayanganj Premix Kernel Mill located inside the facility.

During the inspections, she discussed grain storage, storage capacity, mill production and overall food management with officials. Officials from the Narayanganj administration and the Food Department were present.
