The foreign ministry and the labour wing concerned began monitoring the
situation immediately after the incident, he said.
The minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting
the Labour Welfare Centre in Bandar, Narayanganj, on Tuesday.
“Two Bangladeshi expatriates have died in this tragic incident, while
several others are receiving treatment at local hospitals,” he said, adding
that the government was regularly checking on the injured and their treatment.
He said he had personally spoken to the father of one of the injured
expatriates, expressed his condolences and assured him of assistance.
Urging Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia to remain cautious, the
minister advised them to stay in safe places amid the current situation. He
also asked them to contact the relevant numbers of the Bangladesh embassy
directly in case of emergencies.
On allegations of harassment of expatriates at airports, Ariful Haque
Chowdhury said the government remained committed to resolving their problems.
He urged expatriates with specific complaints about harassment at airports
to submit them through the ministry’s official email address for direct action.
During his visit to the Labour Welfare Centre in Bandar, the minister also
inspected a hostel for women workers and a five-bed hospital intended to
provide accommodation and healthcare services to working women in Narayanganj.
He said the facilities were important to ensure that women workers could
work safely and without disruption while having access to accommodation and
medical care.
The government was working to formally reopen the hostel and hospital on
November 7, fulfilling a long-standing demand of local residents, he added.
Among those present during the visit were Narayanganj-5 MP Abul Kalam, Labour and Employment Ministry Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarfadar, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Inspector General Md Farhad Siddique, Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training Director General Jamil Ahmed, and Labour Department Director General Md Abduch Samad Al Azad, along with senior ministry officials.
