The notice is believed to be linked to his participation in a protest demanding the resignation of India's Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, according to a report by Anandabazar Online. Imran took part in the protest at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan on October 10. Police initially detained him but later released him.
According to the report, police investigated Imran's participation in the demonstration, reportedly focusing on the fact that he is not an Indian citizen. Following the investigation, he was asked to leave the country by October 28.
However, the report did not establish whether the
notice was directly issued as a consequence of his participation in the
protest.
