Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep concern over clashes between law enforcement agencies and an armed group in Sajek Valley, Rangamati, which have reportedly left around 2,000 tourists stranded.

He has called on the authorities concerned to take immediate and effective measures based on accurate intelligence rather than acting on false information.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday, Shafiqur Rahman wrote, What is happening in Sajek, under Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati district? Instead of chasing false intelligence, clear steps need to be taken based on accurate intelligence.

Emphasising the need to ensure public safety, the Jamaat chief said no one had the right to play with the lives of ordinary citizens.

Take the right steps while there is still time, he added.

His remarks came amid concerns over the security situation in Sajek Valley and the safety of tourists reportedly stranded there following the clashes.
