Rajshahi Stars FC are on the verge of making history as the first Bangladeshi women’s club to compete in the AFC Women’s Champions League.The reigning champions of the Bangladesh Women’s Football League have already begun preparations to represent the country in the prestigious Asian club competition.The team held its first training session on home soil on Saturday ahead of the preliminary stage in Malaysia. Despite persistent rain, the players completed nearly two hours of training at Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur.Head coach Golam Rabbani Choton is placing greater emphasis on collective performance than individual brilliance, despite having several experienced and star players from the national team in his squad.Choton was satisfied with the players’ physical and tactical preparation despite the adverse weather conditions. His primary target is to prove the team’s ability at Asia’s highest level of women’s club football while creating a new chapter in Bangladesh’s football history.National team defender Shiuly Azim, who played a key role in leading Rajshahi to the latest Women’s Football League title, is also determined to make the opportunity count.The AFC Women’s Champions League preliminary stage will be held in Malaysia from August 17 to 23. Rajshahi Stars have been placed in Group A alongside India’s East Bengal, hosts Sabah FA and Guam’s Rovers FC.The Rajshahi-based club now hopes to sharpen its preparations before leaving for Malaysia and make Bangladesh’s debut on the Asian women’s club football stage a memorable one.
