Iran has not yet decided to resume negotiations with the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, rejecting any suggestion that ongoing contacts through mediators amount to a fresh round of talks.Speaking about the latest status of the Islamabad ceasefire memorandum, Araghchi said the document declared an “end to the war” and did not establish a ceasefire that needed to be extended.According to him, the memorandum provided a 60-day window for negotiations toward a final agreement. He claimed the United States violated that understanding and resumed the conflict.Araghchi said Qatar and Pakistan, acting as mediators, were only exchanging messages and maintaining communication between the sides. Such communication, he stressed, should not be interpreted as negotiations.We have not yet decided to resume negotiations with the United States, he said.Separate talks with OmanAraghchi also clarified that Iran’s discussions with Oman were separate from any potential negotiations with Washington.He said the talks with Oman focus on detailed and strategic issues, including maritime boundaries and shipping arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz.According to the Iranian foreign minister, previous routes are no longer operational and the sides are working on a temporary route that could later be turned into a permanent one.Reopening Hormuz depends on other conditionsAraghchi said the strategic discussions with Oman and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz are two separate matters.Even after a route is determined, he said, reopening the strait would depend on the fulfilment of other conditions, including requirements that the United States must comply with.
