President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for outstanding individuals who make significant contributions to education to be recognised and rewarded at the national level.He made the call on Thursday during a courtesy meeting with a delegation from BRAC University at Bangabhaban. The delegation was led by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Syed Farhat Anwar.During the meeting, the vice-chancellor briefed the president on the university’s overall academic activities. He said BRAC University was focusing on career-oriented subjects that meet contemporary demands, including artificial intelligence (AI), life sciences, agro-technology and nursing.Emphasising the need to improve educational standards, the president said Bangladesh must keep pace with the rapidly changing global landscape. He urged both public and private universities to expand their research activities and strengthen their academic standards.The president also stressed the importance of recognising Bangladeshis who have achieved success in various fields abroad, saying their contributions should receive recognition at the national level.He further called for the swift formulation of policies to modernise the education system, emphasising the need to move beyond traditional approaches and introduce modern, relevant and career-oriented education.During the meeting, Professor Syed Farhat Anwar formally invited the president to attend the university’s upcoming convocation ceremony as its chancellor. The president accepted the invitation and assured the delegation that he would attend the event. The president’s military secretary, secretary and press secretary were present at the meeting, along with BRAC University’s pro-vice-chancellor, treasurer and registrar.
