Rear Admiral Md Moinul Hasan has assumed office as the new director general of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, succeeding Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Haque.He formally took charge at the Coast Guard headquarters on Thursday (September 10), according to Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Suzan, media officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.The handover ceremony was attended by senior Coast Guard officials. Moinul Hasan signed the official handover and assumption register to mark the beginning of his tenure.Moinul Hasan joined the Bangladesh Navy in 1989 and was commissioned into its Executive Branch in 1992. During his career, he held several key command and staff positions, including commander of Chattogram Naval Area, commander of Bangladesh Naval Fleet, the first commandant of the Navy Training and Doctrine Command, and commodore of Naval Aviation. He also served as deputy director general of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.A career navigator, he commanded a corvette, two offshore patrol vessels, three fast attack craft and a missile boat. He also contributed to the development of the Navy's Naval Aviation Wing while serving as its commanding officer, Flying Wing.He received professional training and higher education at home and abroad, including courses at the Defence Services Command and Staff College, National Defence College, India's Defence Services Staff College and the US Naval War College. He is currently pursuing a PhD at Bangladesh University of Professionals.He also served as a military observer with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Côte d'Ivoire from 2007 to 2008 and represented the Bangladesh Navy at various international military exercises, conferences and seminars. In recognition of his service, Moinul Hasan has received the Navy Peace-time Medal, Distinguished Service Medal and Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal.His appointment is expected to further strengthen the Coast Guard's operational capabilities and modernise its activities in safeguarding Bangladesh's maritime waters, coastal areas and riverine regions.
