A brilliant assist from Neymar and a late goal by substitute Rony helped Santos secure a place in the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals after a 1-0 victory over Remo in the second leg of the round of 16 on Wednesday.The two teams played out a goalless draw in the first leg, but Santos won the return match 1-0 to advance to the last eight with a 1-0 aggregate score.The match was played at the Estadio Estadual Jornalista Edgar Augusto Proença. Neither side managed to score in the first half, but Remo were reduced to 10 men in the 28th minute after defender Marlon was shown a straight red card.Santos head coach Cuca made three changes at the start of the second half, bringing Neymar, Rony and Willian Arao into the game. The substitutions immediately added more attacking threat to Santos’ play.In the 74th minute, Neymar produced a precise assist to set up Rony, who found the net to put Santos ahead. That goal proved to be enough as Santos held on for victory.Santos dominated possession throughout the match, controlling the ball for 69 percent of the game and taking 16 shots, with five on target. Remo managed 12 attempts, including three shots on target.With the win, Santos moved into the quarter-finals of Brazil’s premier domestic cup competition.
