A madrasah teacher was detained after a rape allegation was raised involving a nine-year-old student in Sadar upazila of Noakhali.The accused, identified as Mawlana Mobarak Hossain alias Emran, 45, was allegedly beaten by local residents before being handed over to police.The incident came to light around 6:00pm on Tuesday in Ashwadia Union, according to police and the child’s family. Police said they went to the area after receiving information and took Emran into custody from the locals.According to the family and police, the child had become inattentive to her studies over the past few months. Her parents later noticed physical changes and questioned her about the matter.The child was taken to a private hospital in the Sadar police station area on Monday. There, she allegedly told her family that the teacher had sexually assaulted and physically abused her on several occasions over the past five to six months.The family alleged that Emran used to tutor the child privately at his residence, where the alleged assaults took place. Meanwhile, Emran was injured after being beaten by local residents. Police took him under escort to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital at around 9:15pm, where he is currently receiving treatment.Emran is the son of Golam Kibria of Ashwadia Union. The child is a Class V student at a local madrasah. Confirming the incident, Sudharam Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nazrul Islam said the accused used to tutor the child at his residence and that the family had alleged the rape occurred there.He said the child’s mother filed a case against Emran at the police station on Tuesday night. Police said the allegations are being investigated and legal proceedings will follow based on the findings.The identity of the child has been withheld to protect her privacy.
