BNP to launch nationwide dengue awareness campaign

The BNP has decided to launch a nationwide dengue awareness campaign while filling vacant grassroots posts as part of its organisational restructuring. The party has also set a process for selecting its candidate for the by-election to the seat vacated by President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.The decisions were announced by BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi after a meeting of the party’s National Standing Committee at the BNP chairman’s political office in Gulshan on Saturday night. The meeting was chaired by party Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.Rizvi said the meeting focused mainly on the country’s dengue situation. The party will distribute awareness leaflets across Dhaka and other parts of the country, while also conducting campaigns through radio, television and social media. The leaflets have been prepared with input from specialist doctors.The BNP also urged authorities to ensure dustbins at schools, madrasas and marketplaces to prevent mosquito breeding, and called on Girl Guides, Scouts, volunteers and students to take part in dengue prevention activities. Supplying mosquito nets to all district and upazila hospitals was also emphasised.On organisational restructuring, Rizvi said vacant posts created by deaths and expulsions would be filled through promotions in line with the party constitution. Regarding the by-election, scheduled for October 29, nomination forms will be available at the BNP central office in Paltan on September 15 and must be submitted on September 16. The party’s nomination board, the National Standing Committee, will interview aspirants on September 18 before announcing the final candidate.
