Five-time world champions Brazil have expressed strong interest in playing an international friendly against Bangladesh in Dhaka during their October tour of India. If the proposal goes ahead, the Selecao could face Bangladesh on October 6.A five-member Brazilian delegation recently visited Dhaka to assess the feasibility of the proposed match. During the visit, the delegation inspected the National Stadium and Bashundhara Kings Arena and held a courtesy meeting and preliminary discussions with Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Tabith Awal.FIFA's international window is scheduled from September 19 to October 6. Brazil are due to play two friendlies in Australia on September 25 and 29 before travelling to Kolkata for a match against a local side or India on October 3.With Dhaka relatively close to Kolkata, the Brazilian delegation has proposed extending the trip to include a friendly against Bangladesh on October 6.However, the proposal presents several challenges for the BFF. Bangladesh are scheduled to compete in the FIFA ASEAN Cup in Indonesia from September 24 to October 4. The national team could play four matches in the tournament and is expected to return home on October 3 or 4.Playing Brazil just two days later could raise concerns over player fatigue and injury risks. The BFF will therefore have to consider the physical condition and preparation of the national team before making a decision. There is also a question over FIFA recognition. Under the rules, a team can play a maximum of four matches during an international window. If Bangladesh play four matches in the ASEAN Cup, the proposed October 6 fixture against Brazil may not receive official FIFA status.Financial considerations are another factor. Brazil are expected to travel with a large contingent of around 90 people and reportedly plan to fly to Dubai via Dhaka on a chartered flight. The BFF would have to cover the charter flight and other associated costs. The proposed fixture would be a major opportunity for Bangladesh football, but scheduling, player fitness, FIFA recognition and financial commitments will all have to be weighed carefully. The match will only be finalised after further discussions and an official announcement from both sides.
